International Women’s Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.
International Women’s Day (IWD) has occurred for well over a century and is supported by over a million people. TH.0 Director – Sarah Landry is a distinguished Keynote Speaker this year from the UK. To further the aim of IWD, we have set up HackHerTH.0n 2021, a virtual global hackathon that focuses on women empowerment and gender equality in the workplace.
Why Should You Attend?
While a lot is being done to bring gender equality in society, there are still stigmatizing stereotypes being perpetrated in schools — girls are encouraged to embrace the humanities and the arts to prepare them for the future roles of mothers, careers and housewives. Young girls live in the belief that boys are just smarter than them and they are way better in STEM subjects.
As a consequence of these harmful ideas, women are still underrepresented in the STEM field which results in less participation of females in digital solutions that shapes the future.
A hackathon that attempts to highlight and solve problems that women face in their professional life is more important that ever before. Attending the one-of-a-kind HackHerTH.0n is a great way for you to:
- Challenge and call out gender stereotypes, discrimination and bias
- Celebrate women’s achievements.
- Create an inclusive and more gender-equal world.
- Build connections and expand network
- Implement innovative solutions with women around the globe
- Showcase your talent and skills while learning new ones
How can you make a difference?
Introduce HackHerTH.0n to your friends, attend as a group or on your own, discuss participation plans with colleagues, pitch the idea to your manager and request your company to get involved.
This year, keeping in mind the theme of IWD 2021 – #ChooseToChallenge we have set up our challenges to reflect the urgent issues women need to rise up to. They range from improving access to education for women, to empowering access to global learning resources to funding and promoting women-owned start-ups.
