Hackathons are taking the corporate world by storm. The sky is the limit when it comes to these events. Businesses largely benefit by hosting hackathons that is specifically geared at scouting for the best new talent.

Students, graduates and professionals with varying skillset participate in hackathons under intense time-constraint to create mind-blowing products and services and walk away with prizes, a sense of accomplishment, a memorable experience and a larger network.

Top 3 ways attending a hackathon will boost your employability:

All jobseekers can benefit exponentially by attending a hackathon. Here are some of the best ways in which a hackathon can help build CV, expand skillset and improve employability.

1. You will learn in a low-risk environment

Attempting to bring any idea to fruition always carries a lot of risk. In a hackathon, you are encouraged to apply fresh approaches to a problem that you may not risk in the real world. You won’t have a manager breathing down your neck, neither would you have to play by rigid rules. Thus, giving you the flexibility and freedom to experiment.

2. Guaranteed to learn new technical skills and polish your soft skills

A hackathon provides a great environment to experiment with tools and technologies that you would otherwise not have access to. Webinars, workshops and mentors are always at hand to help you brush up on technical as well as soft skills such as collaboration, presentation and communication, etc.

3. You could get external recognition

Getting validation, being appreciated, gaining recognition and receiving reward for great projects are perhaps some of the best aspects of hackathons. Demonstrate your skills, stand out to the wider tech community and catch the eye of recruiters looking for their next hire.

Attending a hackathon is one of the fastest ways to expand your knowledge. These events allow you to sharpen your skills and keep them relevant for the future. Moreover, you are setting yourself above the competition by adding hackathon experience in your CV. It’s an indicator to potential employers of your willingness to go above and beyond in the pursuit to develop your area of expertise and shows how passionate you are about it.

Simply put, hackathons will help you hack your career in your chosen industry!

What is workplace diversity?

Workplace diversity is a term used for creating an inclusive work environment.

Companies with workplace diversity employ individuals with a variety of different characteristics, such as age, gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, religion, political views, cultural background, etc.

In an inclusive workplace culture, all these individual differences among employees are accepted and all employees are treated on an equal basis.

The benefits of diversity in the workplace

Benefits of workplace diversity are usually mentioned in the context of social responsibility and boosting a company’s reputation.

However, workplace diversity has many tangible benefits that directly impact the company’s bottom line and revenue.

According to research, there are top 10 benefits of diversity in the workplace:

  • Variety of different perspectives
  • Increased creativity
  • More innovations
  • Faster problem-solving
  • Better decision making
  • Increased profits
  • Higher employee engagement
  • Reduced employee turnover
  • Better company reputation
  • Improved hiring results

The Rising Importance Of Workplace Diversity

Workplace diversity has a significant impact on employees’ engagement and productivity. As a result, workplace diversity has a direct effect on the success of companies.

The importance of workplace diversity is even more amplified in today’s global market. With the help of new technologies, companies are now able to reach people from different groups all over the world. Companies with diversified workforce are able to better understand differences among people around the world, accept and leverage them to sell their products and services on the global market more successfully.

Thus, diversity in the workplace isn’t just a passing fad – it’s a better way to do business in a modern world. Successful employers know that and actively promote diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

How To Build a Stellar Tech Workforce in 2021

For any growing business, one of the hardest things is building a solid tech team that consists of the right people. You may think you have a great team at the moment but it only takes a few unsuitable hires or the development of few features which aren’t quite right to make things go south. Today, we have compiled for you some excellent tips on how to build a brilliant tech team for your business; one that will propel your company’s growth in the coming years.

Hire a CTO

Some startups outsource their technology at seed stage, but most investors would like to see an in-house CTO.

If you’re building a tech business, it’s important to have a tech culture from the start.

Involve Developers

One of the best decisions is to include engineers in decisions about what to build and how to build it from the start.

Understanding their needs and requirements will also help in establishing a well-rounded team.

Invest in Hiring Experienced Tech Leads

Hiring talent for a growing tech team is not easy, and the talent you do find needs to be motivated to stay, thrive and be promoted within the firm. If you hire good technical leaders, you will feel comfortable and confident giving autonomy.

A 2019 Benchmark Report: Hiring tech talent for CIOs and CTOs states it takes 50% longer to hire for a tech role than all other types of positions. If you would like to fast-track your recruitment efforts and take a new approach to hiring tech talent this year, you’ve landed on the right page.

TH.0 is organizing RecruitaTH.0n, a virtual recruitment hackathon in January. Our hackathons deliver greater insights to companies that are recruiting regarding the behavioral performance, cultural fitness, and practical skills of candidates in real-time, something that would not be possible in a traditional interview setting.

Furthermore, the hackathon setup enables organisations to set certain expectations for the talent being examined while ascertaining whether their skills align with the job roles available by setting up their own challenges at the event.

For more information, book a slot and we will be happy to walk you through our process.

Smart Governments Trends To Look Out For in 2021

As governments adapt to unprecedented changes, they have the opportunity to help reshape the world by becoming more integrated and intuitive, according to a Deloitte report.

“Now more than ever, technology priorities must be established in the context of business trends such as digital equity, ethics and privacy, widening generational chasms and the need for institutional agility,” adding “policy is the technology and technology is the policy,” said Rick Howard, research vice president at Gartner.

Here are the trends driving innovation and accelerating the move toward smart governments.

Augmenting government with AI

Governments are finally embracing cognitive technologies around the globe. How governments respond to AI as users and regulators will have a profound impact on how societies grow. Applications are currently being developed and deployed and technology is improving fast with private and government sectors adapting to novel ideas and new possibilities.

Preempting problems through predictive analytics

Predictive analytics will allow governments to identify problems before they occur.

This kind of an “anticipatory government” model will be extremely helpful in many areas such as safety, law enforcement, epidemics, etc.

Improving public service delivery via digital citizen initiatives

Mature digital authentication technologies are starting to gain momentum. Unique digital identifiers can open the door to integrated data and a more seamless citizen experience, enabling dramatic leaps in service quality, massive efficiency gains, and the move to a digital delivery model.

Managing the rise of data and associated ethics questions

In a world where we have a wealth of information, it can be used for good or ill. The question of data ethics will need to the attention of governments. Not only are they ‘owners’ of incredible amounts of data, they are also regulators of data for corporate use. Transparency, equity and privacy will need to guide government policies in this sphere.

Use your skill to bring change!

GovTech is worth our immediate attention. We challenge you to take full advantage of new capabilities provided to us by various existing technologies and create better systems for governments.

GovTech, organised by TH.0 will update and empower the UK voting process by using the latest technologies such as #Blockchain#BigData#AIThe Virtual Hackathon happening on the 12th of February is bringing together bright, and talented people from around the world to help hack the problem of running elections using the next #UK #election as a focal point.

How To Attract Quality Talent Through Hackathons

Companies around the world are turning to innovative ways of reimagining talent acquisition through hackathons. In addition to being an exceptional hiring tool, businesses are also leveraging hackathons to establish positive brand reinforcement and creating a strong employer brand.

Organizations are using this creative setup to not only identify exceptional talent but also cement their position as more desirable work destinations at the same time.

What a 10-round interview does is accomplished by a hackathon in three or four hours.

In today’s competitive climate, companies are looking for competent and self-motivated employees even if it takes months to pull them out of the digital abyss. In such a scenario, a Hackathon works like magic in gathering people of such caliber under one roof. All employers need to do is to observe, network and decide if they are the right fit for their organization or not.

Not only do they reduce hiring time drastically but also, organisations are able to recruit niche talent by attending industry-specific hackathons.

Increasingly, hackathons are being used as an effective way to build brands. A hackathon is one of the few recruiting platforms where talent comes to the company through competitions rather than visiting applicants.

During a regular recruitment cycle, it becomes difficult for hiring managers to assess a candidate’s ability to tackle real challenges and work under pressure with just a few questions. In a recruitment hackathon however, businesses get to see prospective employees in action, working among teams to accomplish a common goal within 48 hours.

Why are hackathons so effective when it comes to finding talented employees?

Hackathons are amazing when it comes to finding new employees. The best skill to have is working under pressure, collaborating within teams, completing projects in a given time and competing in a competitive environment; this way, not only are the participant skills checked, but companies can evaluate whether they have the ability to be a valuable part of their team or even lead the team in the future.

Dedication is a key factor when you want to find a future employee, and you will easily find a lot of talent backing their dedication up.

Many major companies closely monitor hackathons and offer internships, jobs and placements in their companies when they find a participant that’s worth keeping.

If you’d like to create a strong employer brand and hire fresh talent – Become a part of the TH.0 RecruitaTH.0n to scout for new interns/employees or even set up your own challenge within the hackathon.

National Volunteers’ Week Hackathon by TH.0

Volunteers’ Week is an annual celebration of the contribution millions of people make across the UK through volunteering. Like every year, TH.0 is expressing their gratitude, but in a different way. We don’t just want to sit on the sidelines and appreciate while volunteers risk their lives on the forefront; we want to help them the best way we know how to – by providing tech-driven solutions for the causes they are fighting for.

Through the National Volunteers’ Week Hackathon, our focus is on supporting volunteers to take on coronavirus-related volunteering roles and most importantly, to help communities cope with the many consequences of coronavirus.

The theme for 2021 is ‘Time to Say Thanks’. We believe in actions, therefore as a way of saying thanks, we will be bringing together people from all backgrounds within the UK virtually to participate in a hackathon that creates viable solutions for possible future pandemics so we can mitigate risks to vulnerable individuals, prevent loss of life and be better prepared.

What is Volunteers’ Week?

Volunteers’ Week is a long-standing, popular event in the voluntary sector, established in 1984.

It is supported and celebrated by grassroots organizations as well as larger, household-name charities, who together run hundreds of events across the UK.

Why Should You Join?

People choose to volunteer for a variety of reasons. For some it offers the chance to give something back to the community or make a difference to the people around them. For others it provides an opportunity to develop new skills or build on existing experience and knowledge. Regardless of the motivation, what unites them all is that they find it both challenging and rewarding.

Below are some of the reasons people choose to volunteer. For some it provides an opportunity to:

  • give something back to an organisation that has impacted on a person’s life, either directly or indirectly
  • make a difference to the lives of others
  • help the environment
  • help others less fortunate or without a voice
  • feel valued and part of a team
  • spend quality time away from work or a busy lifestyle
  • gain confidence and self-esteem.
  • meeting new people and making new friends
  • a chance to socialise
  • getting to know the local community

For some, volunteering can be a route to employment, or a chance to try something new which may lead to a career change. From this perspective, volunteering can be a way of:

  • gaining new skills, knowledge and experience
  • developing existing skills and knowledge
  • enhancing a CV
  • improving one’s employment prospects
  • gaining an accreditation
  • using one’s professional skills and knowledge to benefit others (usually described as pro bono)

How To Get Involved?

Volunteers’ Week is a chance to be part of the UK’s biggest annual celebration of volunteering, recognizing the contribution of over 20 million people who volunteer in their communities across the UK.

Registrations are currently open for the National Volunteers’ Week Hackathon. Show your appreciation by giving back to the community and making a difference with your skills and talent.
